Training Options (PADI and SSI)

Discover Scuba Diving

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to breathe underwater? Or become a fish for a day? This is how to do it.

Discover Scuba, also known as a resort dive, is a 3–3.5 hour dive experience that introduces you to diving. After a short academic session, you will practice three skills in shallow water before heading out on a dive with your instructor to a maximum depth of 40 feet.

This is not a certification course, but it is perfect for anyone wanting to try diving. Of course, we hope you’ll get hooked and continue to your:

Open Water

This is your first official step into the underwater world. The course consists of academics, confined water (pool) training, and open water dives. After completing the course, you will be certified to dive anywhere in the world to a depth of 60 feet.

E-Learning

The “classroom” portion is completed online before beginning your course. Fees for the academics are paid directly to PADI or SSI.

You will complete all your in-water training with us, beginning with your confined water training, most likely completed in the sea pool at Sunset House. You will then complete your four open water training dives from shore or from the boat, depending on availability.

This is generally completed over three days, usually with one full day and two half days.

Referral Dives

For those who have completed academics and confined water training but still need Open Water Referral Dives.

Referrals can be completed for PADI and SSI courses or with a Universal Referral from another agency. Off The Wall Divers can complete the training in two half-day sessions from boat or shore, depending on availability.

Advanced Open Water

Don’t be discouraged by the title. Advanced Open Water is designed to advance your training and introduce you to more facets of diving, not to complete a bunch of difficult skills.

The AOW course is designed to introduce you to other areas of diving like night, deep, or wreck diving, as well as help refine other dive skills such as navigation, buoyancy, photography, and fish identification.

The course consists of an academic section completed online and five training dives. You are required to complete a deep dive and a navigation dive, but the other three dives are up to you.

This course is a great way to build confidence and experience and certifies you to a depth of 100 feet.

Nitrox Course

This is the most popular specialty course because it enables you to dive longer.

While Nitrox will not change your air consumption, it does increase your no-decompression time, allowing you to stay underwater longer, especially on repetitive dives. Many divers also use Nitrox for the extra margin of safety it can provide, and some divers feel less tired after diving with it.

It’s a quick course, mostly online, and it can extend your dive time. What’s not to love?

Specialty Courses

Interested in learning more about a specific skill or type of diving? Then a specialty course is for you.

We offer many of the PADI and SSI specialty courses available, including Deep Diving, Navigation, Photography, Fish Identification, Search & Recovery, Wreck Diving, and more. Depending on the course, you may complete between two and four dives.

Mike and T were amazing! We spent every morning for a whole week together. It was my wife and my first boat dives and they helped us feel so confident and ready to explore. Great communication above and below water.
I accidentally dropped my fin 80ft after a dive – Mike geared up and dove in without hesitation to retrieve it!
