About Us

Off the Wall Divers has been a staple of Grand Cayman’s dive community since 1991. Although it has undergone different ownership over the years, the mission has always remained the same: providing excellent service and personalized dive trips with a staff of divers who genuinely love diving. We focus on small groups, allowing us to get to know our divers in a relaxed yet professional setting.

We operate out of the Atlantis Dive Center in George Town at 37 Seafarers Way. We mainly dive on the west side of Grand Cayman, the leeward side of the island, which offers consistently excellent diving conditions. When weather permits, typically during the summer months, we also dive the North Wall. We occasionally dive from Red Bay on the south side of the island as well.

Over the years, Off The Wall has had some truly wonderful owners, staff, and guests. Some of our guests have been with us since the very beginning, returning year after year. We strive to create a strong dive community that keeps divers coming back for more.

Off the Wall Divers suffered a tremendous loss in September 2024 when former owner Tom Shropshire unexpectedly passed away. Tom was deeply passionate about diving and the company. He was a great friend, mentor, and an important part of the Off The Wall family.

Tom wanted Off The Wall to continue and keep its legacy alive, so he left the company in the hands of his head captain, Mike Chapman. It was a challenging transition, but Mike and his wife Amanda successfully navigated not only the legal transition of ownership, but also the steep learning curve of moving from boat captains and dive instructors to owner-operators.

Mike and Amanda remain committed to maintaining the high standards that Off The Wall Divers has upheld for more than thirty years.

Our Boats

Off The Wall operates two identical 28-foot Parker boats powered by 300hp Mercury engines, ensuring quick travel times to the dive sites. The boats are Prodigal Sun and Wayward Sun.

Each boat carries all required safety equipment, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, emergency oxygen, a first-aid kit, VHF radio, and flares. We also provide fresh ice water onboard along with snacks between dives. Dry storage is available for smaller dive bags, towels, and personal belongings, while larger dive bags can be safely stored at the shop during trips.

Our boats feature a wide beam and comfortably accommodate up to eight divers, although we typically limit trips to six divers to maximize comfort and provide a more personalized experience. We always have at least two staff members onboard, with one instructor in the water and another providing topside support.

The Crew

Mike

Owner / Captain / Dive Instructor

Hometown: Newquay, England

Why I love to dive:
“To explore and share my passion for the underwater world.”

Favorite fish:
Trunk fish

Favorite dive site:
“All of them! It’s never the same twice. But if I must choose, the Round Rock to Trinity Caves run is a banger. Funky Sponges to Bonnie’s Arch is always a fan favorite. Big Tunnels and Orange Canyon are fantastic. Pallas Arches and Ray’s Bedroom are great too. Hepp’s Wall is a treat. Roundabout is a winner. There are too many amazing dive sites to choose from.”

What are you doing on your day off?
“Grillin’ and chillin’ on the beach or hiding in the air conditioning playing guitar and hanging out with the cats.”

Amanda

Owner / Captain / Dive Instructor

Hometown: Palm Harbor, Florida

Why I love to dive:
“I love temporarily becoming part of the underwater world. Watching the fish, shrimp, turtles, and rays go about their day never gets old for me. I’m waiting for my gills to grow in so I can live down there permanently.”

Favorite fish:
“All of them! But I especially like the personalities of Indigo Hamlets and Nassau Groupers.”

Favorite dive site:
“Orange Canyon, Wild Hammer, or Devil’s Grotto, just to name a few!”

What are you doing on your day off?
“Either having a BBQ on the beach or hanging out with my cats at home and crocheting sea creatures.”

Frankie

Dive Instructor

Hometown: Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

Why I love to dive:
“I love the calm, serene feeling when you first get below the surface. It’s so quiet it’s almost like everything is moving in slow motion. I also love the mystery of the sea — you never know what you might see, from a hammerhead to a cute little blenny.”

Favorite fish:
“I love them all, but if I had to pick, I’d say porcupinefish because I love their confused faces and big eyes. I’m also a sucker for sharks and nudibranchs.”

Favorite dive site:
“My favorite deep site is Eagle Ray Rock because of the swim-throughs and lively reef. My favorite shallow sites are Pallas Arches and Red Bay Caves.”

What are you doing on your day off?
“I love going for a fun dive even though we dive at work. If I’m not diving, I’m usually doing some random hobby I picked up like embroidery, digital art, or puzzles — basically old lady hobbies. I also spend hours editing photos from previous dives.”

Chris

Dive Instructor

Hometown: Essex, England

Why I love to dive:
“It gives me access to a world of exaggerated and unfamiliar beauty. As a guest in the water, I’m forced to observe with little power to interfere with the things around me. Being able to share this with other people is an extraordinary gift.”

Favorite fish:
“Sharks, especially hammerheads, which I’ve been fortunate enough to see here in Grand Cayman.”

Favorite dive site:
“Too many to choose from. I love Big Tunnels for its sheer size and beauty, Blackie’s Hole for the forest of soft corals, and Caribbean Club for lionfish hunting.”

What are you doing on your day off?
“Honestly, I refuse to take days off when offered. But when I’m forced to, I like lounging with the dog and cat or playing some kind of sport.”

We have dived with Off the Wall Divers 8 times over the past 7 years. Their valet service is impeccable, the staff is wonderful, the diving is beautiful! I cannot say enough nice things about this dive operation. We dive with many other operators in other locations, but Off the Wall is our absolute favorite.
